Bras for a Cause

Bras were busting out all over The Wellington June 13 and May 30 as this lively seniors' retirement residence joined The Lounge radio station in a Bras for a Cause fundraiser to fight breast cancer. In support of the fundraiser, many residents decorated their suite doors with bras. Refreshments, entertainment and displays were all hosted by The Wellington.

The following slideshow presents highlights of the event on June 13, when the collected bras were draped on a bus. Among those present were Wellington residents and staff, Red Hat Society members, and Medicine Hat Mavericks.

The following photos are from the May 30 mid-point fundraiser, at which a Lounge cruiser was decorated with bras. Click on the thumbnails to see full-size images.

Wellington residents joined in the fun by hanging bras on doors. Bustier purse and feathered headress added fashion flair. Balloons, buddies, and bonnets were all celebrated. Displays included this sleek scooter.
Fun for everyone, from bras on doors to informational displays - plus refreshments!

During the day, 85 bras and a stream of donations were dropped off at The Wellington. Part of the fun including draping The Lounge Cruiser in bras and adapting bras as head gear. Among the volunteers were an enthusiastic group of "Red Hats."

Decoration starts on The Lounge cruiser. Strings of bras hang over a window. Finding a special place for an colourful accent bra. Filling in the corners.
Volunteers pitch in to drape The Lounge cruiser with multi-coloured garlands of bras.

The goal of the campaign is to collect donations and at least 500 bras, hook them together into garlands, and decorate a city bus with bras. On May 30, the volunteers demonstrated how it is done by draping The Lounge cruiser with bras.

Is there room for this one? Only a REAL MAN will volunteer to wear the bra cap. Garlands of bras. Adding the final touches.
Is there room for this? New look! Bra cap! Garlands of bras Finishing touches.

The fun continued with the official wrap-up of the campaign on Saturday, June 13, when a city bus was draped with at least 500 bras. This wrap-up also included a remote broadcast by The Lounge and was held at The Wellington.
